RAW WOOD, HIGH ART: ELEGANT HANDMADE CHAIRS BY BRIAN BOGGS

A Brian Boggs handmade chair carries a lofty reputation for comfort, aesthetics, and workmanship. Looking at one in the sunlight flushes out beautiful finished grains like walnut and curly maple or the rich hues of mahogany and cherry, and sitting in a Brian Boggs handmade chair reveals why so many consider it an epitome of both form and function.

THE SONUS GUITAR CHAIR: AN AMAZING HANDMADE CHAIR DESIGNED FOR MUSICIANS

Co-Founder Brian Boggs has over 30 years of experience in building his award-winning handmade chair designs—each one custom made to order. Now, inspired by the abundant music of Asheville, North Carolina, he has shifted focus to address the specific needs of musicians, designing the Sonus Guitar Chair.

Musicians often favor stools for the freedom of movement, sacrificing back support, but more often they use what’s at hand: cheap seats with a back that was never designed with a musician’s posture in mind.

The Sonus guitar chair is handmade for musicians to addresses every desired sitting requirement of guitar, banjo, and mandolin players (among others) and consider things like: ample lumbar support, a properly pitched seating angle, and a proper seating height. The Sonus is even made from the same hearty tonewoods used by master luthiers, reflecting the same beauty found in a prized instrument.

A HANDMADE CHAIR BUILT FOR GENERATIONS OF OUTDOOR USE

Brian Boggs’ outdoor garden furniture collection reintroduces the chair’s timber back to the outdoors. Each Sunniva chair is made by hand and built to weather the elements through careful lumber selection and unique in-shop processes that give Sunniva its comfort and strength.

The key to the Sunniva handmade chair is the curve of the back slats. Brian Boggs built his own jigs to bend laminated boards to just the right shape, providing ample lumbar support (something usually lacking in many outdoor chairs). At the same time, Sunniva’s unique back gives the head a comfortable place to rest, giving way to total relaxation for hours—all the while retaining the wood’s natural strength and durability.

APPALACHIAN ELEGANCE: BOGGS CLASSIC LADDERBACK HANDMADE CHAIR

In the forest hills of western North Carolina, the experienced woodworkers at Brian Boggs – build the finest handmade chair possible that no machine could ever replicate. The sturdiness of time-tested traditional Appalachian design is married to a quiet reverence for the wood’s natural beauty, shaped and sculpted by leading carpenters in their field.

The ladder back chair is what Brian Boggs based his reputation on. He arrived at his now-standard design by building a prototype out of a woodworking book with zero power tools. Brian refined the prototype into its current impeccable form but decided to keep the tools—and approach—imparted by doing things “the old way.”
